Today, at six years old, Zoe stands as a cuddle-powered force of nature: soft of heart, iron-willed, and capable of sleeping through events that would wake lesser beings. Nap time is not a hobby. It is a sacred institution, protected by law, custom, and the very real risk of being glared at for making noise.
When awake, she deploys her remarkable intelligence selectively. She knows an impressive collection of tricks, including “Bang Bang,” in which she takes a dramatic fall with the commitment of a stage actor who has just learned the curtain is down. Her nose is a top-secret detection system capable of finding hidden toys, snacks, and anyone foolish enough to think they are out of sight.
Her epic zoomies remain a threat to orderly household operations. One moment, Zoe is standing perfectly still; the next, she is a golden blur making high-speed laps as if pursued by the ghosts of mushrooms past.
She is a full-time champion of Pupper Playtime—except during naps, when all play must cease and the nation must lower its voice. She wrestles her cousin with the conviction of a warrior defending the crown and has never accepted a ruling that did not declare her the winner.
Fetch is among her favorite pursuits, particularly the part where a human must chase her. The return of the item is a separate proposal, still awaiting review. She also loves sticks, especially the ones that appear to require a permit, a road closure, and a small engineering team to transport.
And when the day’s heroic labors are complete, Zoe remains steadfast in her belief that every citizen deserves a pup cup—and that she should probably inspect the first one.
